Tuscaloosa, Ala.- Although the University of Alabama men’s club lacrosse team has not played the last four games and will probably not get to play its final game against Auburn, it does not mean the players’ statistics and games’ outcomes cannot be predicted.

Captains picking their teams for the practice scrimmage

The top scorer for Bama, William Gardner, who had an average 2.667 goals scored per game, would have a hypothetical 21 goals scored by the end of the season. This number has included the five games played hypothetically and three games actually played. The Mississippi State statistics were not included because it was a scrimmage game. These would be the total numbers based off of the statistics the players received before COVID-19 postponed the season:

#43 William Gardner- 21 hypothetical goals

#44 Hayden Adamson- 13 hypothetical goals

#6 Thomas Harding- 8 hypothetical goals

#23 Aaron Cargas- 8 hypothetical goals

#37 Alex Hird- 5 hypothetical goals

#44 Hayden Adamson- 16 hypothetical ground balls

#1 Robert Zahralban- 11 hypothetical ground balls

#28 Ty Brazeal- 11 hypothetical ground balls

#6 Thomas Harding- 5 hypothetical assists

#42 Bryce Smith- 5 hypothetical assists

#46 Patrick Cullen- 29 hypothetical face-off wins

#41 Jake Long- 13 hypothetical face-off wins

#16 Justin Alenxandre- 213 hypothetical saves

Here was the equation performed to get these calculations:

Total goals = # of goals already scored + 5(# of Average Goals Per Game)

While these numbers are theoretically based on the averages of the three games played, they represent the potential the Alabama lacrosse team had this season. In comparison to the 2019 season, these statistics would have been better. For example, Alexandre only had 118 saves for seven games, and the most goals scored last year was 15. These speculated numbers could mean the team would have had a better season than the previous one.

Last year Bama lost against Vanderbilt (5-10), Georgia Tech (4-22), LSU (11-16), and Auburn (13-20). The Tide beat Ole Miss (19-9). These are the teams they did not get to play this season. With these scores factored in, players who returned, and the results of the 2020 season, here is a prediction on the outcomes of the games not played by Alabama:

Vanderbilt- Win

Georgia Tech- Loss

Ole Miss- Win

LSU- Win

Auburn- Win

The one game that could have swung either way was Bama’s game against Auburn. Alabama and Auburn’s rivalry has always been a part of the school spirit, and the one thing that will always be for certain is no one can ever truly predict a game when these two opponents are playing each other.

At the end of the day, no matter what the predictions are, both opposing teams would have had to show up and play. This factor will always be the beauty of competition. The game results, however, will never be known, and it is all thanks to the coronavirus.
